The key reason for having rucksacks separated in ladies and men's (unisex) -models is the fact, that the individuals representing the female sex tend to grow a little bit shorter than the male specimens. Things you might want to bare in mind when you're purchasing a new sleeping bag are the temperature you'll need to stay comfortable in, insulation (synthetic fibre or natural down), lenghth and overall feeling. The rule of thumb has been, that synthetic insulation is cheaper and also works better when it gets damp. Down on the other hand is super comfortable and packs in a smaller space, and actually nowadays many manufacturers treat their down to be hydrophobic, so it does'nt suck in moist as the down insulation from the olde times.

Outdoor textiles can be roughly divided in two: technical materials such as shell layers (GoreTex etc) and traditional cotton- /cotton-polyester materials.

When choosing your hiking shoe you would want to determine the terrain you usually deal with.
If walking in a demanding terrain (craggy outcrop of rock) or carrying very heavy load a stiff bottom is recommended. If you hike in in a more easier forrest bottom you will find a lighter shoe most comfortable.
And the final question: leather or textile? Technical waterproof membrane or not?
