Seam Waterproofing – Smart Design
Fjällräven tents use a unique cotton-spun polyester thread that expands when wet, making the seams waterproof. This innovative approach ensures that the seams improve over time and last longer than taped seams, which can deteriorate.

Complete waterproofing is typically achieved after the seams have been exposed to water a few times, allowing the thread to swell and seal.

Experienced hikers sometimes wet the outer tent fabric lightly before the first use to ensure the seams are ready for action.
Fjällräven tents also feature a special folded seam construction, where fabric edges are folded and stitched together. This technique ensures exceptional durability and waterproofing, as the needle penetrates four layers of fabric instead of two.

Repair Kit – Always Prepared
Every Fjällräven tent comes with a repair kit to help fix minor damage in the field. While the kit no longer includes a tube of silicone glue – it often dried out before it was needed – hikers can bring a fresh tube of seam sealer for extended trips if necessary.

Removing the silicone tube from the kit ensures that you can use a fresh and effective product whenever it’s required.

Manual Updates
Please note that some Fjällräven tent manuals may still reference a silicone tube as part of the repair kit. This information is outdated, as the tube is no longer included.
