Darkening evenings don’t mean the end of outdoor activities – quite the opposite! The twilight of autumn and winter brings a unique atmosphere to being outdoors, as long as you are properly equipped. A high-quality light is the key to safe and comfortable movement, regardless of the season. Whether you’re hiking, skiing, running, or walking your dog, the right lamp makes outdoor activities both more enjoyable and safer.

Luminous Power – the higher, the brighter?

The brightness of a lamp is measured in lumens: the higher the lumen count, the more light it produces. However, the most powerful lamp isn’t always the best choice – the most important thing is to find the right option for your needs. We’ve gathered our experts’ tips to help you choose the perfect light for every situation.

200–400 lumens: For basic outdoor activities and camping

This range is ideal for relaxed outdoor activities, camping, and life at the campsite. A headlamp is a reliable choice for moving around, while a traditional camping lantern brings comfort to your tent or off-grid cabin.

500–1000 lumens: For running and skiing

When the pace picks up, you need more light and a wider beam. A well-fitting headlamp with an adjustable beam is perfect for running and skiing. You’ll see better ahead and to the sides, making movement safer and more enjoyable.

Over 1000 lumens: For demanding activities

Ultra and trail runners, as well as fast cyclists, benefit from powerful lamps with over 1000 lumens. For example, the Petzl Nao headlamp offers up to 1500 lumens and a wide beam, illuminating both ahead and to the sides. The reflective band and red rear light also increase safety in the dark.

Special tip: RGB lights for dog walks

When walking your dog, it’s a good idea to choose a lamp with a colored (e.g., red or green) light. White light can dazzle your dog, but colored light is gentler for your pet and still improves visibility. A comfortable and easy-to-use lamp makes shared walks even more enjoyable. If a headlamp feels challenging, you can put the light in a lantern case, which turns the lamp into a 360-degree shining lantern. The lantern can be hung on a backpack or even on the dog’s leash.
