Excellent water filter which is easily maintainable even outdoors. I was happy when it filtered more than 30 L of sediment rich tea colored water without clogging up. However as a safety measure I added a 20 micrometer filter cloth around the inlet. It is a bit bulky and heavy.

I don't have any real experience with filtering natural waters yet. Tested at home with tap water, at least it didn't get dirty after the first liters. The first bottles have to be run through before actual use, the active carbon filter gets quite a bit of dust into the water at first. The device is easy to use and it can certainly clean the water for several people quite quickly.
Update: Tested in autumn at UKK park. The waters there are otherwise clean, but filter everything. Filtered a few liters of water for cooking and drinking from the little stream flowing on the edge of the swamp, no side tastes and the water is absolutely clear. During the trip, using the filter didn't become difficult, but the water could be filtered without much effort. With the included accessories, the ceramic filter can be cleaned if necessary if it starts to get clogged.

Relatively easy to care for. Purifies water at a commendable rate. In the past, I have used MSR's Water Works and the Mini Works cleaners, as well as MSR's HyperFlow added. Works are mercilessly slower and have no carbon. Admittedly, these are bomb-proof. Hyperflow is fast and small again until it goes totally clogged. The water also often tastes bad. In addition, it does not withstand clapping or freezing. As a result, the Katadyn Vario is now better. As fast as Hyperflow and almost as durable as MSR works.

The water filter worked better than expected and was easy to use. Pumping was quick and effortless, and the lake water was completely clear and tasteless. When water was pumped from the small pond, the taste was a bit musty, but it didn't bother me.
Cleaning is quite easy and the instructions are clear. Sometimes it seems that it is difficult to screw the different parts of the filter into place or that they won't settle into place no matter how hard you try.
Good purchase, I recommend!

Cleans well and thanks to the crank for pumping finds a good rhythm and movement. The filter should be serviced a little during the trip (keep a bear tongue and silicone with you). At least for its own use, the ceramic filter became quite clogged and the flow of water became sluggish. I personally got another ceramic filter for this guy so that in the future I will be able to filter the camp water of 2-4 people without maintenance breaks.

An excellent cabinet that can be recommended. Having been on several hiking and kayaking trips, the waters for 2 people are treated moderately painlessly. Even the humus-containing surface water of a watery yankee became clear of good tap water with no off-flavors. On a week-long trip, occasionally requires a ceramic filter to rattle with the accompanying tongue of the bear. Notice the need when the flow seems to slow down. At the end of the trip, cleaning and maintenance (soda water rinsing, seal lubrication).
