In the outdoors, you need a water filter for all conditions - clear or dirty water, the award winning Katadyn Vario is adjustable to different conditions. The filter eliminates bacteria, protozoa, cysts, algae, spores and sediments. Reduces chemicals and improves taste and odor thanks to a replaceable activated carbon granulate.
The Katadyn Vario uses ceramic as a cleanable dirt shield and glassfiber for microbiological filtration with minimal pump resistance. In "LONGER LIFE" mode, the turbid water is first prefiltered through the ceramic disk and has an output of approx. 1L/min. When operating in mode "FASTER FLOW", the water is directed straight to the glassfiber membrane, increasing the water flow to up to 2L/min.
A dual piston mechanism provides continous water flow with minimal effort, the rubber base a secure stand and an integrated bottle thread fits directly on Nalgene bottles (wide mouth).
Replacement filters are sold separately.

— Show originalI don't have any real experience with filtering natural waters yet. Tested at home with tap water, at least it didn't get dirty after the first liters. The first bottles have to be run through before actual use, the active carbon filter gets quite a bit of dust into the water at first. The device is easy to use and it can certainly clean the water for several people quite quickly.
Update: Tested in autumn at UKK park. The waters there are otherwise clean, but filter everything. Filtered a few liters of water for cooking and drinking from the little stream flowing on the edge of the swamp, no side tastes and the water is absolutely clear. During the trip, using the filter didn't become difficult, but the water could be filtered without much effort. With the included accessories, the ceramic filter can be cleaned if necessary if it starts to get clogged.| Overall rating |
— Show originalThe water filter worked better than expected and was easy to use. Pumping was quick and effortless, and the lake water was completely clear and tasteless. When water was pumped from the small pond, the taste was a bit musty, but it didn't bother me.
Cleaning is quite easy and the instructions are clear. Sometimes it seems that it is difficult to screw the different parts of the filter into place or that they won't settle into place no matter how hard you try.
