Hanwag Grünten

I absolutely love these boots!!! 🙏 I didn’t find breaking them in a problem but they did rub a blister on the inside of my heel first out. But just a couple of bits of Zinc oxide tape on my heels sorted it out until they broke properly. Now they’re supper supple. I would say they’re pretty spot on size wise as I’m normally an 8UK but I bought 8.5UK and ended up putting a semi rigid insole in to support my arches. Probably not the best choice for warmer weather but I wanted autumn/winter/spring boots anyway. They are pretty smart when polished up and warn with jeans and your feet don’t overheat when worn indoors, like a pub or cinema, which can be a problem with heavy boots 🥾 these are are a happy compromise tough outdoors, smartish indoors 😊

The size was way too big, I exchanged it and it was the same. In the end, none of the available sizes fit me. My foot is 26.5 cm long and 9.5 cm wide, and the size 42 was still too big.

Excellent non-membrane shoes. They hold water well when maintained. Requires a couple of good mushrooming trips to break in.

The quality of the materials seems high. They are comfortable enough but benefit from an extra heavy pair of walking socks as there is only minimal lining. I will be monitoring wear on the Vibram Montagne soles which are the main reason I bought this boot over cheaper alternatives.

Stylish and functional hiking shoes.

I have worn these sturdy boots for some time now. They are well made, fit true to size, clearly quality materials, with good grip in the sole and a well designed tongue and lace system that allows your foot to fit easily in and out of the boot, with ample toe box room. I especially picked these boots as they are made without the various porous plastic membranes which are not necessary in a well conditioned boot, markedly increase any drying time and wear out quickly. The colour is pleasing and here in Australia these are quickly recognised as high quality mountain, walking, hiking boots. Break in is no drama, foot support is good and they are a handsome quality leathers boot, craftsman designed and made with honesty and a fair price. I've worn a similar model in the 90s and the quality seems the same. The details are even better. I think they are the best quality-price ratio (260€) for a pair of sewn shoes on the market.

Great shoes, fit my feet well. They are a bit stiff, but it hasn't bothered me yet since I haven't done long walks.

Well made but disappointing to see that the boot is in fact made in Croatia, not in Germany as stated both here and on Hanwags website…
