The Pyhä Snow Safety Center organizes two-three-day FINLAV Snow Safety 1 courses and four-day FINLAV Snow Safety 2 courses.
The Snow Safety 2 course deepens freeskiing decision-making, route selection and condition recognition. The participant learns to plan and execute a safe trip, taking into account prevailing conditions, terrain and group dynamics. The course also develops the ability to recognize avalanche terrain and interpret weather and avalanche forecasts, including the effects of various avalanche problems.
In addition, the participant will learn how to effectively lead buddy rescue situations and alert for help when needed. The course also emphasizes recognizing the human factor and actively managing its effects both in the group and on the individual. In addition, other risks associated with freefall, such as hypothermia, are discussed and how to prepare for them.
Trainers
All of our trainers are authorized FINLAV snow safety trainers in the Finnish avalanche training system and avalanche experts who have completed the CAA (Canadian Avalanche Association) Avalanche Operations Level 2 training.

Prerequisites
The trips involve moving on natural snow and using muscle power, so participants are required to have basic skiing skills in natural snow conditions and experience using equipment suitable for backcountry skiing. A moderate level of fitness is beneficial, but the pace is kept very calm during the climbs. If you are unsure of your skills and equipment, you can consult info@ lumiturvallisuuskeskus.fi
Off-piste skiing always involves risks, but we will travel along the safest possible routes, as a guided group. We recommend checking your insurance coverage before arriving at the course (insurance often does not cover off-piste skiing).
