Congratulation to Finland, celebrating it's 101-year birthday
Here we have an ode to Nordic professionalism in outdoor products. All of these manufacturers are pure Finnish, and we are happy to see that there is a load of them, which seals the fact, that Finland is quite a nest of innovation - especially in outdoor products and being safe and having fun outside in extreme conditions.
We would most politely like to note, that due to our Independance Day 6.12.2018 our store and customer service staff is on holiday (webshop open 24/7, of course!) And we will be back in normal schedule again at Friday 7.12.2018 and continue on waiting for Christmas and snow here to Southern parts of Finland as well.
KUUSAMON UISTIN
Kuusamon Uistin (Eng: Lures of Kuusamo) was a dream come true for two guys both called Paavo. These two men were fanatic fishermen from early age and best of friends. The only thing in the way of their dear hobby was the lack of proper lures. Those days it was very common to create your own gear as the ccommercial selection wasn't as good, as it is these days.
Well. The boys' lures were so nice people wanted to start ordering them from team Paavo. And so the business started. The first three models the made were the "Professor", "Räsänen" and "Kitkan Viisas". Every year Kuusamon Uistin produces a jubilee series of a spoon of theirs and this year they pay hommage to the very first models on their 2019 jubilee spoon covered with 24k gold. Pretty nice.

RAPALA
It was the year 1905, when a baby boy was born to the Saarinen's poor family. The boy was named Lauri, and for some weird reason the church's papers got messed up in 1912 and the boys family name Saarinen got changed into Rapala. Well - this is the name which is very familiar these days to all anglers.
His first minnow was carved with his own hands from cork - this idea he'd got from an American wobbler he had. At the clear waters of Päijänne he made research and discovered, that the movement of a injured baitfish is more than interesting among the catch. The word of a fantastic minnow spread all over the town and soon Lauri needed to speed up the carving, as the local store made it's first order.
Rapala Original was the name, and it still is one of the most selling items on Rapala's product selection.
ROSELLI
Harmoinen might sound like somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and it probably doesn't help to say that it lies between Padasjoki and Kuhmoinen. Do not let the small village distract you, as it is the headquarters of amazing design and artesan smith work.
Roselli is known for beautiful knives, axes and sharp tools. The wood work is amazing, yes - but the steel is forged with so much talent and love, that the user experience is just amazing.
As in many success stories, the production started when mr. Heimo Roselli needed to make some tools for his own needs... and can you guess what happened next? Well: here you see a beautiful sortiment of Roselli's stunning collection.
MARTTIINI
Up in the arctic circle you will find Lapland's capital city, Rovaniemi.
Mr. Janne Marttiini started a knife business back in 1928, and since then they have been rocking great. You can still see the traditional Lappish forming and designs as Marttiini has wanted to stay true to it's roots.
Marttiini knives are the products of a proud tradition, well known throughout the world. They are famous for their durability, elegant designs and all-round high quality, making them the obvious choice for many craftsmen and hunters.
Note the Finland's jubilee -models and the Finland 100-years celebration knife.

FISKARS
From the North to nearly the very South of Finland.
During the seventeenth century a number of ironworks were founded in Finland. The large tracts of forestland in the Pohja region along with its unharnessed water power and good water routes made it an ideal centre for the Finnish iron industry. The ironworks at Antskog were founded around 1630, and Billnäs followed in 1641. Fiskars was started in 1649, and today it is one of the oldest businesses in the western world. Pretty impressive so to speak.
SUUNTO
Suunto was born in Finland more than 80 years ago, when championship-level orienteer and keen outdoor enthusiast Tuomas Vohlonen invented the mass production method for the liquid filled compass.
Since then, Suunto has been at the forefront of innovation, hand crafting premium sports watches, instruments and dive computers that have been tested in the world’s harshest conditions. From the beginning of time, man has explored. All that has changed are the tools.
The word “Suunto” comes from the Finnish word meaning “direction”. Suunto is pronounced “Soon-toh”.

ESLA
E.S. Lahtinen Oy was established on 31.10.1928, when Mr. Erkki Samuli Lahtinen signed an agreement to represent Indian motorcycles. At first, the business idea was to sell motorcycles and bicycles and to repair all kinds of machines.
Considering this era, there were multiple steps before getting to the point ESLA is now. Mr. Erkki Samuli Lahtinen being a proper engineer, he first thought of mass producing kick sleds using a steam engine - and a break through came as the village received electricity back in 1947.
In 1979, the business became registered as a limited company and the founders six children were appointed as the first shareholders. The business is still proudly a family-owned company and all the shareholders are second, third or fourth generation descendants of the original founder. The millionth sled was produced in 2001.

URSUIT
The Ursuit story began in 1964 in Turku, Finland from a modest little dive shop downtown that displayed the finest diving equipment of the time, including neoprene wetsuits, of course. The back room of the shop served as a factory in which the suits were hand cut for each customer individually.
The 1970s saw a continuation of the era dominated by neoprene. The 3-mm suits were an absolute hit among Finnish water sports enthusiasts. One of the company's great prides was its line of modern windsurfing suits.
Ursuit's current premises in the Lauste district of Turku (the medieval time's capital of Finland) was completed in 2008. The impressive facility covers an area of 2,500 m2 and employs over 70 skilled professionals.

SAVOTTA
It was already 50 years ago when the production of forest workers’ equipment such as mittens and rucksacks was started in northern Central Finland, first in Pylkönmäki. In the late 1960’s the company moved to Karstula where it is still operating. The company name “Savotta” dates back to the very beginning.
Savotta's product range still includes many products used by forest professionals, like rucksacks, daypacks, map cases, sledges, shelters and big camp tents. Special products like field hospitals, hall tents and various kind of carrying systems we manufacture for the use of both the Defence Forces, the Frontier Guard and relief organisations.
OAC
An innovative small company in the heart of the Northern part of Southern Finland. These guys can make anything from carbon fibre and they do. Innovative ways to see conventional skis and snowshoes. Skates and bindings. Among producing their own kick-ass products, these guys also perform as a distributor for many of the top mountaneering brands we sell here in our shop as well.
And hey - last but not least. We would like to count ourselves in these Finnish success stories.
Our story begins in 2004, when five friends sharing the passion for outdoor sports decided to establish a small online shop selling special gear for their favourite sports. Soon there was a store to follow - and the rest is history.
It's now over fourteen years and we keep on rollin'. Nowadays we employ about fifty outdoor enthusiasts in the shop, office and warehouse, and we all operate in the same place in Konala, North-West of Helsinki.
And of course: the
fabulous five original guys are still involved in everyday work as well.
