To dive abroad

When talking about diving abroad, you often think about coral reefs of faraway lands and palm tree drinks and pineapples. Finland has amazing waters to dive, but so have the neighbouring countries.

In this post, I present one good old diving destination. If you dream of diving in Norway but find it too expensive or too far away, there are crystal clear waters and cold water corals closer to us: We can warmly recommend Western Sweden. That's the place to go.

Ask your friends or our dive school people about the nearby diving destinations. We encourage everyone to contact interesting dive centers, fill their cars with useful equipment and just go for it.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here we go. After a boat trip and a 5-hour drive from Helsinki, we arrived to Hamburgsund, Dyk-Leif:


This cute little fishing village represents perfectly the Swedish archipelago.



Those who know about the animals in the Finnish Baltic Sea see something familiar in this picture: in saltier, bigger waters in the North Sea near the Atlantic Ocean, the animals are bigger and more colourful than here. This one is called greater pipefish, Stor Kantnål in Swedish.


All kinds of lobsters, crabs, shrimps - it's a crustacean lover's paradise!



There are shipwrecks on Sweden's west coast, too, but if you really want to do wreckdiving, head to the north, towards Norwegian fjords. Narvik in Norway is a real capital of shipwrecks.

On the other hand, if you want to feel the history, dive in the Baltic Sea. If you want to do biological diving and see amazing marine animals, the best place to visit is Western Sweden, Hamburgsund and Väderöarna.
