Shell garments are essential gear for outdoor enthusiasts, providing protection from rain and wind while maintaining breathability during active use. In this article, we will cover the types of shell jackets, seam sealing techniques, and important technical features such as waterproof ratings.

Types of Shell Jackets
Shell jackets are generally divided into three types:
2-layer: Two layers – an outer waterproof layer and an inner lining. Suitable for light outdoor activities.
2.5-layer: Lightweight construction, packs into a small space. Popular for hiking.
3-layer: Combines the outer layer, membrane, and protective lining into a single durable unit.

Seam Sealing Techniques
Taped seams: The most common way to ensure the garment's waterproofness.
Welded seams: Lighter and more durable

Waterproof Ratings and Breathability
The waterproof rating indicates the waterproofness, and in an outdoor jacket, it should be at least 10,000 mm.
RAB utilizes GORE-TEX Pro and Pertex Shield membranes, ensuring both waterproofness and breathability.
