+Sompa is big enough for deep and soft snow +The attachment of the soma is sturdy, it probably won't come off when you grab a branch or a stump. +The shaft seems quite stout, it wobbles clearly less than in tower poles. - The straps could be better, but these will do just fine. Sometimes you can roll the threads out of the straps so that it doesn't press on the palm of your hand. - The strap "tightening lock" is not perfect, it is a bit difficult to use, there are better ones. But, there are these good rods for deep dead ends. Many competitors are suitable for wannabee forest skiing, these for genuine traditional skiing.

Ok, basic poles for the forest in any weather. At least they lasted the first trip just fine. The straps were twisted, one more and the other only half a turn, but it was quick to put them on properly, you should check before the first use that they fit your hand.

Excellent product. A couple of times I have managed to use it in very thick and heavy snow and they have worked exactly as I hoped. I used to have telescoping poles from which the telescoping function broke while climbing a steep slope. That's why I specifically wanted rods without that feature. I believe these poles can withstand the strain of climbing.
