Simple hiking boots at a reasonable price / quality ratio. It may take a little getting used to if you haven’t used one before, which was amazingly awkward at first compared to hockey sticks. Adjusting the bandage laterally to the right level is important, otherwise the muscles of the leg and puppies will go completely lactic after a couple of hundred meters. The shoe should also be really sturdy, I started using it with the boot swabs myself and I end up making a 1mm polyethylene sheet ankle support for my shoes to get mono-like stability. Very comfortable to skate as long as the shoe fits, and the ties are in place. Horrible if not.
When the front binding is set to the widest setting, it can no longer be moved sideways. If necessary, move the front bandage forward over the toes so that the bandage can be set narrower, and thus also laterally to the right.
The 55 cm long skate has a huge amount of space to move the straps lengthwise for large shoe sizes.

The skates work well. They are obviously less manoeuvrable than hockey skates. Be careful putting them on. You have to cinch them tightly. But one time I managed to jam the strap in buckle and couldn't get it out without tools.

A lovely new sport. For older people, maybe start with poles. Easy to carry, easy to put on. Yet another reason to enjoy winter. Hiking boots are necessary, but not necessarily winter ones.
