The sauna has for ages been a central and revered place in Finnish life, a place of birth and death, life and celebration. The word “hiisi” is ancient Finnish for a holy place, a place of sacrifice or mystical power – the perfect family name for our sauna tents and accessories.

The Hiisi 2 is an updated design based on the old Hikimaja. The tent itself is basically a box with a sloped roof, no center pole. The corner poles are inserted into sleeves on the outside of the tent, making the interior a bit less crowded. The ceiling and wall materials are fire retardant for safety, not fire proof though so sparks and flames will burn holes in them so be careful.

The interior is large enough to fit one two person bench, two persons, and the stove. The stove is placed in the far right corner, as viewed from the entrance. The bench is placed on left hand wall, beneath the window. The window along the top edge of the bench wall provides some light and a chance to peek outside. The entrance is a simple zippered slit. A length of cord is attached to the ceiling seam of the back wall, this is an attachment point for a sauna thermometer to help you keep track of the temperature and not overheat the tent.

The tent, poles and stakes pack neatly into a carry bag for transport. Shoulder straps allow backpack like carry freeing up your hands for stoves or other accessories.

INSTRUCTIONS – READ BEFORE USE!
We recommend two to four people for pitching the Hiisi 2. You need a hammer or similar tool for striking the stakes into the ground. We recommend using a up to 100 °C sauna thermometer to prevent overheating and help you get the perfect temperature.
  • Find a suitable flat spot ca. 3,5 x 3,5 m, beware of hazards:Dry grass and undergrowth, trees and branches (fire hazard).
  • Uneven ground (stove or users may trip and fall).
  • Unpack the tent sheet and insert the corner poles into the sleeves.
  • Spread out the tent sheet with poles inserted roughly where you want it.
  • Erect one or two opposite corners at a time:Hammer a stake into the ground approx. 140/160 cm (wall height) from the corner.
  • Attach the corner guy rope to the stake with a reliable knot.
  • Repeat until all corners are standing and each guy rope is staked to the ground.
  • Inspect the tent, correct if necessary by adjusting the poles, stakes and ropes.
  • Install stove and bench.
  • If available attach a up to 100 °C sauna thermometer to the line hanging from the ceiling. The thermometer should hang 140 cm above ground.
  • Do not heat the interior over 75 °C, extreme overheating may damage the tent and is unnecessary – it is steam that makes the sauna enjoyable, not hot air.
  • Enjoy (with caution).

WARNINGS – READ BEFORE USE
This sauna tent is designed to be heated with the Savotta wood burning stove and stone rack. If used incorrectly the heated stove may cause numerous hazards and bodily harm:
  • Savotta sauna tents are not designed for prolonged stationary use and should be dismantled, cleaned, dried and stored indoors between uses. Sunlight will damage the fabrics over time. Keeping a tent pitched for a few months straight will damage it and any damage due to this type of misuse is not covered by our warranty.
  • To avoid tent damage from falling sparks the chimney top should extend 100 cm above the chimney port. We recommend burning hardwood to minimize the risk of sparks.
  • Although the fabrics are fire retardant and self extinguishing they are not fire proof – sparks and flames will damage and burn holes in the fabric. Stove heated tents will in normal use suffer some burned holes from sparks hitting the fabric. This is normal wear and tear and easily patched if needed. Our warranty does not cover any burn damage either through normal or misuse.
  • Only use stones intended for sauna use. Improper stones may crack when heated and cause injury through flying shrapnel.
  • Sparks and heat from the stove may light nearby combustible material on fire, remove any easily combustible material inside and near the tent before use.
  • Always keep a generous bucket of water or a fire extinguisher within a few seconds reach of the tent when the stove is hot, be prepared to put out any fire if necessary!
  • The stove and stones are extremely hot when heated and will cause injury if touched!
  • Inspect the ground for any hot embers after use and extinguish these with water.
Savotta Tent Stove:

A reliable source of heat for your tent. There is space on the stove to make food or coffee. The stove can also be used as a sauna stove. A stove rack (have to be purchased separately) that guarantees the stones will stay in place is sold separately. The 7 flues that come with the stove fit inside it to facilitate transportation.

Technical facts:

  • Weight: n. 18,5 kg
  • Height: 30cm (+4,5cm where chimney begins)
  • Heigh with the stands: noin 55 cm.
  • Width: 28cm
  • Length: 42cm

Savotta Hiisi foldable sauna bench (1 piece):
The Hiisi foldable sauna bench is designed for Savotta tent saunas. The structure is foldable, which makes the benches compact to carry. The benches are made of light spruce treated for the sauna environment. One bench can accommodate two bathers. The benches are made in Finland.

The benches consist of two parts: the foldable frame and the seat. Assembly is quick and easy. The frame part is folded open, which forms the basic structure of the benches, footrests included. The seat is then placed on top of the frame, making the structure more stable. The assembly is secured into place using handy velcro straps which finalise the adherence of the seat to the frame.

Hiisi benches are ideal for the Hikimaja sauna, the small sauna tent, the Hiisi sauna tent and the JSP sauna tent. One bench is sufficient for the Hikimaja sauna, but the small sauna tent and the Hiisi sauna tent can accommodate two benches each. The JSP sauna tent, on the other hand, is more spacious with room for six benches.

Absolutely beautiful, I will never go camping without this again. Quick to set up, amazingly good baths. I ordered the water heater separately and drilled into the side.

I was positively surprised. The baths were humid and I got hard baths too. No. 1 for a cabin without a sauna.

Exceeded expectations, really good baths! It's a shame that there are already a few holes in the tent despite the additional tube, but it doesn't affect the use. One piece of pipe comes off a little from the joints. Used 8 times already. In 10-15 minutes you can already get to the baths. I've only used birch bark.

Easy to set up. 4 bolts, I can't find an explanation for what the net is for. It would be good to have a support from below for the opening of the fireplace horn, because when heated, the fabric "sags" and the metal of the horn opening presses on the fabric pit. I already have supports in development... Warms up well and the thing drives as intended.

The legs of the stove could be a little sturdier and the upper part of the tent gets holes surprisingly easily.

Very nice small portable sauna…Only risk is getting small holes in the roof from hot ashes in the smoke. I will experiment with rockwool or similar to get double benefit. Insulation from both ashes and increasing warmth…

The products are of very good quality. The sauna sensations are very pleasant. The tent is easy to set up and take down. If it is windy, be sure to stretch everything, especially the 2 sides adjacent to the wood stove. Before folding it, it is necessary to dry it well. The size is perfect for 2 people, by putting small chairs it should be possible to fit 3. The materials are robust and well finished. The wood stove is robust, its iron composition allows better thermal conduction than those made of stainless steel. I advise to take 40 kilos of sauna stone to be able to fill the 2 racks and cover the top well. The design is perfect, the 2 racks and the 7 segments of the fireplace fit inside during storage. It heats up hard and fast. Very good material. The racks easily hang on the stove. Their capacity represents approximately 10kg of stone each.
