Having walked the entire length of the Arctic Circle Trail in Greenland in these boots, I can safely say that they are not overrated at all. I walked 170 km across the Arctic and experienced practically no blisters or chafing, although I did feel some painful pressure above the ankles. However, this was more due to not breaking the boots in enough, which everyone warns can be painful, rather than any fault of the boots themselves. One of their biggest advantages is the generous toe room, even when wearing the recommended two pairs of socks.
After six days of trekking through Arctic bogs, the leather got slightly damp (they’re not made entirely of rubber, after all), but they never leaked — the thick socks were just a little moist on the outside, but not wet!
The result? After this trip, a second pair of Lundhags boots moved into our home – this time a women's pair! :)
As for the downsides, these boots aren't ideal for multi-day hikes in warmer weather. Still, with regular breaks to air your feet, they should be fine unless it’s really hot outside. Unfortunately, some pairs might have small cosmetic or production flaws. For example, there is a small gap in the foam and lining where the upper meets the rubber lower on one of my boots (as if someone was a centimetre short of material). However, I only noticed this after the tough break-in period, and it doesn’t seem to affect comfort or cause rubbing. Therefore, I decided not to exchange them, and I hope I won’t have to.

Good-feeling shoes have been ruined by poor soles, made of too hard a rubber compound. Especially when the temperature drops to autumnal temperatures and the terrain is wet, the soles are really slippery. In winter, even life-threateningly slippery. After a long break-in, they are comfortable on the feet and you don't need a membrane. The rubber edge keeps your toes dry and well-waxed when walking in normal conditions, and you can even wade through a small swamp even though they are not rubber boots.
Otherwise, the advertised eternal durability of the shoes was not very convincing when the first pair went under warranty after about a year of use. The rubber part on both sides of the big toes had cracks and water was getting in. Also, one of the side seams of the shoe had come undone near the heel. Apparently, the production being moved to southern Europe has also taken the "legendary durability" of Lundhags down. Based on these experiences with the shoes, I would recommend looking at something else...

These boots are simply just amazing. They support and protect the foot extremely well, but of course a bit stiff to begin with. It takes probably about 100-150 km for them to become comfortable. They breath well and dry relatively quickly when have become soaked. Remember to size up 0.5 or 1 size and wear two pairs of semi-thick merino hiking socks, then you are safe! I highly recommend these boots if you hike in tough terrain (I hike in Iceland) whether with light or heavy weight.

Good, solid hiking boots. Very stable and water-repellent, ideal for alpine terrain.
Allow enough time to break in your shoes before a longer hike, as there may be pressure points with blisters on your feet. Long lasting product.
