Just back from a long weekend walking the Peak District, camera gear in the bottom section, tripod strapped to the side, clothing and light sleeping bag in the main compartment. About 12kg, very comfortable, webbing and the gap between pack and back reducing heat / sweat a lot. Highly recommended for hiking trips but not enough room for camping gear. Be aware that there is a curve built into the frame that would interfere with large solid objects (e.g. laptop) but I knew that when I bought it. I considered the Futura Pro 36 but there is very little difference in height and, when all the straps are tightened on the 42, you basically have the same bag. I had no problem having the bag as a carry-on item with Finnair but I was a little nervous and made sure to keep the bag from looking overloaded.
