I skied on the Ylläs spring hill in a test sense on nano-skis for 100 km. The temperature ranged from -2 to -6 degrees. The first five miles were a really sticky ride when the ski’s nano-bottom was “run in”. After that, the skis started to slip. The grip was incredibly good - much better than the other skiers in our party who had lubricated skis underneath. The grip was a big help as I pulled half the test miles of the Chariot stroller after me.
According to our own estimates, the glide in the nano-skis was about 10-20% less than in the lubricated skis. I wasn't bothered by it either. Admittedly, if you enjoy fast-paced skiing, you should ski with lubricated outings.
At 30 miles, I wondered when the grip of the skis dropped significantly. I already meant to put the skis in pieces and a fireplace, but my nephew reassured me and told me to clean the bottom of the skis with Rex’s bio-cleaner. This was done, and the grip returned.
I recommend nanoscopes for lower frost readings because nano-skis do not work in severe frost conditions. In this case, a lubricated ski is definitely better. Cleaning the bottom of the nanoscopes is really easy and quick with a liquid cleaner. I think it's worth cleaning every 20 miles. I also recommend cleaning after the last ski run in the spring to prevent dirt from getting stuck.
