I found these to be really warm when standing in temperatures from -2 to -17 (it felt like over 20 degrees Celsius). Size M is for a 181cm (5'11") and 85kg (185lbs) height. As for activity, I'm a 3km (10 miles) march in uniform, plus gear and weapons. If you leave a warm room, it gets too warm. So, for longer marches (10km+), they might not be as effective at wicking moisture away. Although I could be wrong, it will definitely be less comfortable, but when standing, you quickly lose the feeling of being damp from sweat. I think they're a very good purchase; they fit perfectly, are suitable for very cold temperatures around -20 degrees Celsius, don't restrict movement, and you can always wear something underneath. After three weeks of daily use, there's some visible chafing on the thigh, but I don't consider it significant enough to be a sign of anything bad. I recommend them, and for activity, I'd go for something lighter with a synthetic blend.| Overall rating |
Sizing is massive!

The former have been in relatively active use for 7 years, and there are still days of use left, but they have started to thin out so much at the back that I had to prepare for a new pair.
Size considerations: I normally wear underwear size L, these have been XL, just because there is room to move. The thighs fit well, the legs are slightly loose. And I have a naturally slightly thinner thigh. But they keep it warm.
