When skating on natural ice, the poles used for touring skating must be such that they can also be used to test the thickness of the ice. I doubt the functionality of those rods for that purpose. In addition, skating poles MUST NOT be put on the straps of your hands, as if you happen to fall on the ice, they can prevent you from escaping the ice, as you will not get your nipples in your hands if the poles are stuck in your hands.
