Credit footwear for decades. You should buy one size smaller. 40 is my normal size, but 39 is suitable even with wool socks.

Looks like good boots, haven't used much yet. The heel goes up with the wool sock, but I shouldn't have changed it to a smaller one, if the shaft is too tight. Now the leg is comfortably loose, it's easy to tuck your pants into the boot.
