I run Spartan Races, I bought the VJ Spark and they are top for short and muddy races. Despite, the VJ Maxx 2 are top for longer and more technical races but I don't pay the right attention, they fit completly different from.the Spark and so that size I choised didn't fit properly my slim feet. Therefore "only" 4 stars.

The shoes look very good, they are comfortable and the size seems right (I took the size I always take for running shoes, 14 US). I still have to test them with a run, but at the moment the impressions are very positive, the shoe also seems well cushioned and at the same time very reactive.

After 50 km of testing, it seems good. Good fit even for a wide foot and the heel stays firmly in place. Quite a bit of cushioning, but on the trails the feel of the surface is good. Those looking for more cushioning and those with larger sizes should consider the Ultra 3 model from VJ.

Based on initial experiences, the shoe is surprisingly spacious, even though it looks narrow. The last of the shoe is a bit long, I definitely recommend trying on a suitable size. The sole pattern is a good basic model, not a particularly aggressive stud, but the grip still seems good. The grip on bare rock/stone is really good, whether dry or wet. Mossy rock is a different story, but I don't think there is a material that solves that problem. The shoe seems handy, the cushioning doesn't feel soft and comfortable, but it will probably still perform very well on longer runs. A simple and flexible go-to in a good way, as long as the fit is just right for your foot. The inner surface of the heel cup is, hmm... non-slip material. The idea is to prevent the heel from moving in the shoe. I recommend investing in good socks, because a damp cotton sock and this material are not a good combination, even though I didn't cause myself much damage during a three-hour jacking workout.
The upper is quite thick and/or stiff, but it works well and there is nothing to complain about it so far. Some reviews have mentioned it being a bit warm, but that will be resolved in the spring. The shoe doesn't absorb water at all due to a very small puncture, so I can't comment on how water drains out of the shoe yet. Overall, it seems like a really versatile and flexible shoe. Looking forward to longer rides!
