I've used headphones to listen to audiobooks with a bike helmet and while jogging. Works great. You can also hear background sounds, which is important when cycling. The only minus comes from the fact that in colder weather you can't protect your ears from the gust of wind, when the beanie doesn't fit tightly against the skin because of the headphones, and you can't even use loose ear flaps.
