I chose another jacket instead of this one, but nothing to complain about in itself. When I tried it on, it felt good and will definitely do its job. The long model also protects the waist and thighs more from the weather. However, it would not necessarily be suitable for hiking when you have a backpack on your back and you might have to lift and bend your legs a lot during steep ascents or descents. A long hem would probably constrict and limit mobility.
