The synthetic microfiber filling is laminated to both upper and lower sides of the mat which eliminates the loss of loft common to synthetic filled sleeping bags.
Swift inflation: The mats can be inflated by mouth within 1 to 1.5 minutes. The one-way flap in the flat inflation valve is very helpful as it prevents air from flowing back out between breaths. Packing is made simple with the separate deflation valve with one-way flap.
Optional inflation methods: to prevent accumulation of humidity when blowing into the mat, we suggest alternative methods using one of our pump accessories: ‘Mini Pump’, ‘Pillow Pump’ or ‘Shrinkbag’ with ‘Pumptube Shrinkbag’.
FlatValves (pat. pend.) for inflation and deflation simplify handling. Flat in design, non protruding, of soft PU and without sharp edges makes these valves more durable than traditional ones.
Laminated fabric is both durable, airtight and humidity resistant. The shell‘s top surface is of brushed, honeycomb structured polyester fabric that provides excellent slip resistance and comfort next to the skin. The seams are high frequency welded for durability.
Two fabric grommets at the head end can be used to secure the packsack to the mat when used as a pillow.
Light and warm: The SynMat Basic has a R-Value of 4. At about the same weight a standard 2.5 cm selfinflating mat only has a R-Value of 2.5. Further EMPA tests demonstrated that regular mats lose 3x more heat to cold ground than to the air. The conclusion: using a warmer mat you can save about 20% the weight of a sleeping bag.
To reduce air pressure when lying on the mat just press on the one-way flap of the inflation valve and air will be expelled.
