Edelrid Giga Jul, the most versatile belay device yet. It combines the functions of a standard and assisted braking tuber in one, offering flexibility for various climbing situations. Its intelligent mechanism allows users to activate or disable the assisted braking function as needed, making it ideal for belaying and abseiling in alpine terrain. Assisted braking tubers have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their enhanced safety features, recommended by Alpine Associations for their effectiveness in arresting falls. However, there are scenarios, particularly in alpine climbing, where standard tubers still offer advantages. Their dynamic braking performance, especially when anchored at a fixed point like a belay station, may be preferred. Additionally, using a standard tuber for abseiling and belaying the second with a doubled rope can provide increased comfort.
