How does it feel when a long-time dream comes true?

Dreaming of a Break
For a long time, Tuija had dreamed that her whole family could leave the city behind for a while and try life in the north. When the family finally decided to seize the opportunity and move to Ruka at the beginning of 2026, there was both excitement and nervousness in the air. The journey towards a new everyday life required a lot of planning and adjustments, as well as letting go of the familiar and safe. The break wasn’t an easy decision, but it felt right.
"There are always reasons and even more excuses why this couldn’t have been done. Staying put is much easier than making a change, but luckily we went for it," Tuija describes.
The Courage to Leap Was Worth It
Tuija says that life in the north has been simpler and calmer compared to city living. The new everyday life has brought a sense of well-being and reminded her that having the courage to leap is worth it.
"This has already been amazing, and I dare say it has changed me for good. I knew what peace and a slower pace would do for me, but I never would have guessed how strongly the nearby nature could affect my own mood and well-being."
New Everyday Life, New Gear
Moving to the north also meant updating clothing and gear to suit the northern conditions. In Ruka, city gear was no longer enough – warmer and more durable clothing and equipment were needed.
"I’ve spent the whole beginning of the year in insulated pants, merino wool base layers, and knitwear. Let me just say, Varuste.net’s selection has the gear for the north, the south, and everywhere in between," Tuija tips.
